Shrimp Fishery to Open Again in the Pacific

MEXICO - Based on studies of commercial shrimp species on the Pacific coast, conducted by the National Fisheries Institute (INAPESCA), the shrimp ban will be lifted in the marine waters of federal jurisdiction in the Pacific Ocean, including the Gulf of California, well as estuarine lagoon systems, marshes and bays of the states of Baja California Sur, Sonora, Sinaloa, Nayarit, Jalisco and Colima.

The period of capture of the species will be made in stages from 13 September, according to the dates and fishing zones that are indicated below:

At 6:00 pm on September 13, 2012, in estuarine lagoon systems, marshes and bays located in Sonora, Baja California Sur, Jalisco, Colima and Sinaloa, with the exception of estuarine lagoon systems Escuinapa Township .

In estuarine lagoon systems Escuinapa Township, in the states of Sinaloa and Nayarit, also lift the ban from 6:00 pm on the 13 of September.

In coastal marine waters of the Pacific Ocean including the Gulf of California, from its northern border with the United States, to the port of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, located on the parallel of 23 11'N, except marine waters of the buffer zone of the Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta, the ban is deleted from 6:00 am on 19 September 2012.

Meanwhile, in the marine waters of the buffer zone of the Biosphere Reserve of the Upper Gulf of California and Colorado River Delta, the ban will be lifted from the 6:00 hour September 25, 2012 and in coastal marine waters of the Pacific Ocean, in the sea area south of the port of Mazatlan, Sinaloa, located on the parallel of 23 11'N, to the border with the Republic of Guatemala, the ban will be lifted from the 6:00 am on 29 September 2012.

Note that in the Mexican Pacific regions there are species such as white shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei), blue shrimp (Litopenaeus stylirostris), brown shrimp (Farfantepenaeus californiensis), southern white shrimp (Litopenaeus occidentalis), glass or red shrimp (Farfantepenaeus brevirostris), Pacific seabob (Xiphopenaeus riveti), rock shrimp (Sicyonia disdorsalis and Sicyonia penicillata), zebra shrimp (Trachypenaeus faoe), royal red shrimp (Pleoticus robustus) and shrimp boom (Trachypenaus pacificus).
