OIE: Oyster Herpesvirus Outbreaks in Ireland

IRELAND - Two outbreaks of Oyster herpesvirus has been reported to the OIE by Dr Martin Blake, Chief Veterinary Officer, Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Agriculture House, Dublin, Ireland.
The outbreaks affected pacific oysters and occured on semi-open salt water farms.
Two outbreaks have been reported at the Lissadell Hatchery and Sligo Bay sites, Sligo and Oysterhaven, Cork.
The outbreak in Sligo led to 90 per cent morbidity and mortality and the outbreak in Cork led to 40 per cent morbidity and mortality.
The source of the infection is unknown.
