Total Allowable Catch for Torres Strait Tropical Rock Lobster Agreed

12 October 2012

AUSTRALIA - At its August meeting the Torres Strait Tropical Rock Lobster Resource Assessment Group has recommended a preliminary catch limit of 871 tonnes for the 2013 fishing season.

A final draft of CSIRO’s management strategy evaluation report was also endorsed at the Brisbane meeting.

The jurisdictions of Queensland, Papua New Guinea and the Torres Strait presented an update on catches and fishery dynamics during recent years. Catch information supported CSIRO’s previous forecasts that recent years would be productive.

The Torres Strait Tropical Rock Lobster Resource Assessment Group includes AFMA managers, scientific, environmental, economic, Indigenous and industry representatives. The assessment group provides important scientific information used for decision making in the fishery.
