Aquaculture Nutrition Attains New Heights

06 November 2012

NORWAY - After several years with a stable rating, the impact factor of the journal Aquaculture Nutrition has jumped.

“This has been our goal for a long time, and I am very pleased that it has happened,” says NIFES chief scientist Rune Waagbø, who is editor-in-chief of the journal. He acknowledges his editorial team, secretary and the publisher Wiley-Blackwell the good result.

Since its launch in 1995, the impact factor of “Aquaculture Nutrition” had lain between 1.0 and 1.5, but this year it rose to 2.17. The impact factor is a means of ranking academic journals, and is based on how often each journal’s articles are cited. The 2012 impact factor is based on the number of citations in 2010 and 2011.

This year, “Aquaculture Nutrition” lies at the top-ten of the rankings in the category “Fisheries”, which comprises 48 journals.

“This makes it easier to be noticed by others, and the flow of good articles, both from Norway and from other countries, will increase,” says Mr Waagbø, who hopes that the journal will maintain its new position.

“The articles that we publish need to be of excellent quality, to be of a high standard and describe good experimental studies,” he says.

NIFES has had editorial responsibility for “Aquaculture Nutrition” since it first appeared in 1995, and the journal is published every two months.
