Print This Page Russia stops all import of Norwegian salmon
RUSSIA - Russia is the largest single market for Norwegian fish exports, and also the fastest growing market. The Norwegian Food Inspectorate say they cannot find any basis for the Russian claims, and offer to carry out a joint Russian/Norwegian inspection of Norwegian salmon production.
Norwegian Fisheries Minister Helga Pedersen is also unable to understand the Russian reaction. Knut Haagensen, Chairman of the board of the National Association of Norwegian Fisheries Industry, also refutes the claim that Norwegian salmon contains dangerous levels of heavy metals.
He says this can easily be documented, and indictes that there may be other reasons for the Russian import ban.
He is supported by Fist Scurities analyst Helge Moen, who agrees that the Russians may have other motives for stopping the import.
