UK - Seafish welcomes the announcement by Owen Paterson, Secretary of State for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, that Elaine Hayes has been appointed as Chair of the Board. Elaine will chair the Board, which oversees the strategic direction of Seafish, for three years from 1 January 2013.

The appointment has been made with the agreement of the Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment in Scotland, the Minister for Agriculture and Rural Development in Northern Ireland and the Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Food Fisheries and European Programmes in Wales.

Seafish is a levy-funded industry body which was created under the Fisheries Act 1981. It has a statutory duty to promote the sustainability and efficiency of the sea fish industry as a whole. Seafish is jointly sponsored by the four UK Fisheries Administrations.

Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish said: "We are delighted to welcome Elaine to the Board at Seafish. This is an exciting time for the organisation as we prepare to deliver our new corporate strategy and the key commitments that we have made to the industry.

"Elaine brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the role. She will be building on the solid foundations established by John Whitehead to ensure that we continue to deliver lasting results for industry."
