These maps show all active Atlantic salmon farms during a four month time frame (March 1 to July 1) for each year from 2007 to 2012. These four months include the "out migration" of juvenile wild salmon moving from freshwater rivers toward feeding grounds in the Bering Sea.
"Salmon farms are very well sited, based on the conditions of the area and the best setting for all fish - wild and farmed," said Mary Ellen Walling, Executive Director of the BC Salmon Farmers Association.
"These maps put into perspective how small the area is that is used for this important farming sector in the province, particularly in our coastal communities."

CANADA - Continuing to help British Columbians better understand where and when salmon farms operate around Vancouver Island, the three largest salmon aquaculture companies in BC (Marine Harvest Canada, Mainstream Canada and Grieg Seafood) have now published the annual update of the "Out Migration Site Locations" maps.
