More Flexibility in Fishermen's Courses

11 March 2013

BRAZIL - The formation and training of new professional fishermen in Brazil is gaining much more nationwide coverage, starting this year. Those interested in the profession, in addition to conducting the courses of the Navy of Brazil (MB), may do them in their own state, offering more flexibility, convenience and opportunity for all.

The estimate is that by the end of the year 10 institutions will have been accredited.

The courses offered, for the formation of new fishermen and retraining of professional anglers, now have extra content including fishermen safety, protection of the environment and training in fishing gear.

"With the redesign of the curriculum, the training course for professional fisherman (POP) rose from 30 to 218 classroom hours, in addition to being incorporated excellence to mold itself to the rules and procedures issued by STCWF-95," explains Captain Sea-of-War and Carlos Frederico Simoes-Serafim, Rapporteur of the Working Group.
