Held prior to VIV Asia 2013, the session gave local tilapia farmers the opportunity to learn about the latest vaccination techniques from experts in the field.
Diseases, such as Streptococcus, have a significant impact on fish production in Asia and other tilapia-producing countries. The key to disrupting the disease cycle in fish farms is to start with a good understanding of key diseases impacting production. Finding a vaccination solution for farmers is a challenging process that requires extensive research and testing, both in the laboratory and field.
Attendees of the symposium learned about the life-cycle of vaccine development, appropriate and effective use of vaccines as part of the disease managment protocol, and best practice from peers around the world.
"Asia accounts for 70 per cent of all fish production in the world. It is important that fish farmers have a strong understanding of the best way to manage the health of thier fish," stated Robin Wardle, Global Strategic marketing Director, Aquaculture.
"MSD Animal health identified an increasing need to provide additional technical and health education assistance in this region and this meeting was the perfect opportunity to bring the fish farmers and experts together."
