Increase in Anchovy Quota Obtained for Gulf of Cadiz, Southern Galicia

26 March 2013

SPAIN - The Secretary General of Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has just obtained, as part of the annual exchanges with Portugal, an increase of 1000 tonnes for the anchovy quota in the Gulf of Cadiz and southern Galicia.

With this increase in quota, Spain reaches 5726 tons for 2013.

With proper management of the fishery last year, Spain did not have to pay for any excess catches and was left with 10 per cent of the quota unused which can apply to 2013 catches.

The Ministry hopes that the available quota increase in 2013 will allow a long and profitable season for purse seine vessels engaged in this species.
