Government Modernises Fishing Boats in Yucantan

MEXICO - As part of the commitment of the President of the Republic of Yucatan, Enrique Pea Nieto, the Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) and the Government have signed a cooperation agreement to replace outboard motors on fishing boats and to install a research center for aquaculture development in the state.

It was agreed to invest about 33 million pesos to replace 200 ecological engines.

Moreover, the state government signed a Letter of Intent, which donated a five hectares of land within the Science and Technology Park of Yucatan, for National Center installation and Technological Innovation in Aquaculture with a special focus to the southeast of Mexico, which will be in charge of the Institute National Fisheries (INAPESCA) and will have nationwide coverage.

It is noteworthy that these measures are in addition to programmes and strategic projects from SAGARPA and the Yucatan government that promote schemes for equipment, infrastructure, sustainability, shares of health and food safety in the state.
