Volta Breams Ltd is planning to produce high quality tilapia (O.niloticus) fingerlings with better growth performance and more disease resistance.
Aiming for the production of 16-20 million fingerlings per year, the hatchery will sell at market price which is usually around Ghc 120-140/1000 2g fingerling, US$ 60-70/1000.
The company said it will provide full and free technical assistance to all clients buying fingerlings.
With good knowledge of the aquaculture sector, Devi Naga Murali and her husband, owners of Volta Breams, started a cage culture farm on Lake Volta in Ghana with a on-site hatchery.
Mr Murali then began offering technical assistance to small and medium farmers and recognised the need for quality fingerlings.
After support from Indian investors, Mr and Mrs Murali started Volta Breams in 2013.
As well as supplying high quality fingerlings to local farmers, Mrs Murali said they have a mission to give full technical assistance, like feed and disease monitoring, to farmers from day one.
They are also planning to make a contract with a good feed supplier to sustain the production with good economics.
