05 June 2013

CANADA - The International Association of Fish Inspectors is holding its biennial World Seafood Congress 2013, in St.John's Newfoundland, Canada on the 28 September to 4 October 2013.

The event is being organised and hosted by the Fisheries and Marine Institute of Newfoundland. The theme of the congress is “Creative Solutions for Global Challenges”, and there will be sessions on Food Safety and Inspection Modernisation, Seafood Sustainability, Seafood Innovation, and Profitable Seafood Markets.

The Congress will have high profile speakers from the US FDA and NOAA, Canadian Food Inspection Agency and the European Commission, from Competent Authorities in less developed third countries and from certification bodies and industry.

The Congress provides a great opportunity for professionals in this field to meet and discuss advances in fish inspection and control in international trade. Organisers expect that the event will be attended by about 400 seafood professionals from around the world, with a strong interest in regulatory and certification issues in seafood trade.

The Congress is supported by a number of commercial sponsors and by FAO and UNIDO.

The event will include a student poster competition and we are pleased to announce that the 2013 Peter Howgate Award is now available to contribute towards the financial costs of attendance of a young fish technologist (under 30 years of age) at the World Seafood Congress.
