Seafish Film is Big Business in the UK & Europe10 June 2013
UK - A film by Seafish is to be made available to schools, higher education institutes and other stakeholder groups, following the success of screenings across the UK and Europe.
‘The Business of Fishing’, which explores the challenges and opportunities faced by fishing vessel owners, was initially produced by Seafish to help industry groups and policy makers understand the different business aspects of the fishing industry.
After original screenings were held in London, Edinburgh, Aberdeen, Shetland and Brussels, an additional 20 screenings have been delivered or scheduled to take place over the coming months.
Now, the film which has been supported by TV marine biologist Monty Halls as well as Scottish Cabinet Secretary for Rural Affairs and the Environment, Richard Lochhead MSP, will be made available via screenings and YouTube to schools and higher education institutes across the UK.
Hazel Curtis, Chief Economist at Seafish, said: “The ‘Business of Fishing’ has proved hugely successful to date, with a positive response from environmental groups, fishing industry and government from across the UK and Europe.
“The film presents, in their own words, the perspectives of fishermen as they strive to ensure that their businesses are both environmentally sustainable and competitive in a tough business climate.
“It’s important that we are able to show the film to a wide audience to ensure that we achieve our aim of helping industry, environmental groups and policy makers collaborate effectively and be more likely to identify and deliver solutions that work from a business point of view, as well as protecting our natural environment and fish stocks.”
“We hope that as many people as possible get the chance to see the film over the next couple of months and we welcome any additional requests.”
