Russian President Signs Federal Law on Aquaculture

RUSSIA - Last week (4 July), Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law on aquaculture (fish farming) and on amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation. It has been several years since the branch has been waiting on the adoption of the law.

The document is expected to be published and made public in due course of time. It aims to improve the legislation in terms of developing fish breeding farms through the provision of land and water usage. The law has also been formed in an effort to preserve the country's marine biological resources.

In addition to this, the President addressed the issue of fish production in coastal fisheries. The main provisions of the law is expected to come into effect by the beginning of 2014.
