Government Issues New Engines to Help Fishermen22 July 2013
ECUADOR - As part of its plan to aid fishermen, the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Aquaculture and Fisheries (MAGAP) delivered the first 131 engines to fishermen.
This plan will benefit around 6,000 families along the Ecuadorian coast by providing incentives. Fishermen will be able to access the new machines according to the year and engine's power credits.
This aid by the Ministry is also an effort to help modernise the country's fisheries sector by introducing superior technology.
The four-stroke engines to be acquired by the fishermen will be imported and more high-tech, and will therefore consume less fuel, while the current one consumes twice as much fuel.
