BRAZIL - The fishermen of Brazil - more than a million people across the country - have received the reassuring news that the deadline for the professional portfolio renewal has been extended.

The deadline has been extended from 30 to 60 days.

"This measure serves to calls from several industry leaders to make it a more comfortable process and to avoid a rush," acknowledges the acting minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Attila Maia.

Currently the renewal portfolio is done in a decentralized manner. The process occurs in both superintendents - representing the MPA in the states - and in partner organizations such as the Confederation of Fishermen and Aquaculture (CNPA), which represents 1,200 associations and fishermen's associations throughout the country

Last June, the Ministry established a partnership with the National Federation of Workers in Water Transport and Allied (FNTTAA), so the new portfolio can also be obtained from the employees' unions in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Piauí and Santa Catarina.

With modern technology and waterproof material, the new portfolio also has no expiration date.
