Aqua Nor 2013: New Research Tests for Sealice Resistance15 August 2013
NORWAY - New research by PatoGen has been testing for sealice resistance, writes Lucy Towers, TheFishSite Editor, from Aqua Nor 2013, Trondheim, Norway.
Announcing the results of Patogen's research, Vidar Aspehaug, stated that the company has found genetic markers that are associated with pyrethroid resistance.
The field tests also showed SNP's associated with organophosphate resistance.
The work, which has so far collected over 800 sealice from 30 sites, also showed that the prevalence of pyrethroid and organophosphate SNP's correlated with observed sensitivity status in sealice.
Mr Aspehaug concluded that these un-published results are very promising, but there is still more work left to do.
