Start Dates Agreed for Mexican Shrimp Fishery

04 September 2013

MEXICO - The Secretariat of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) agreed fishing production start dates of the shrimp fishing season in the Pacific coast, including the Gulf of California.

The start date was agreed as 6 September for estuarine lagoon systems and bays, and from 15 September at sea.

In the event held at the headquarters of SAGARPA CONAPESCA holder, Mario Aguilar Sanchez stressed the importance of implementing closures, since they help to strengthen the sustainability and conservation species.

Mr Aguilar Sanchez called producers to work together and in a coordinated manner, but especially to respect the regulations, both in the off-season and in the period of capture.
