Aquaculture Sites Up for Sale in Serra da Mesa and Canabrava

BRAZIL - The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture will launch today (Wednesday 11 September) bidding documents for aquaculture parks in the reservoirs of hydroelectric plants in Serra da Mesa and Cana Brava, in Gois.

The areas on offer are designed for small, medium and large producers interested in producing pacu, piauçu, pirapitinga, tetra, arapaima, Pirara, Duckbill Catfish, tilapia and tambaqui.

The ceremony will be at the Palace Pedro Ludovico Teixeira, at 10am, and will be attended by the Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Marcelo Crivelli and the governor of Goias, Marconi Perillo.

The bidding of these areas is more a measure coordinated by MPA in order to boost aquaculture in Goiás and allow the cultivation of fish such as tilapia and pacu tambaqui among others.

Altogether 22 fish farms are in Serra da Mesa, with a total production of 38,160 tons/year.

In Cana Brava there are already nine fish farms, two costly and seven inexpensive, with a total production of 17,760 tons/year.
