Corporate Social Responsibility Award for Macrae10 October 2013
UK - Macrae Edinburgh, a dedicated Waitrose supplier of fish and seafood, has been Highly Commended in the Living Well category at this year’s Waitrose Way Awards.
The awards celebrate the initiatives put in place by Waitrose suppliers to enhance the sustainability of their business and food for consumers in line with the four core principles of the supermarket’s CSR policy, ‘The Waitrose Way’.
Macrae Edinburgh was Highly Commended for its work to maximise space on shelf in store, reduce packaging and improve salt levels in its products. The altered fixtures mean that products sit lengthways on shelves rather than upright allowing consumers to see more of the product and Waitrose to add in another shelf, making more use of the space available to them. The redesigned packaging also includes a new recipe or serving suggestion to inspire consumers with ways to incorporate the reduced salt products into their diet.
Kelly Wright, Account Director, Macrae Edinburgh said: “We’re delighted to have been Highly Commended in the Living Well category at the Waitrose Way Awards. Macrae Edinburgh is dedicated to supporting the core principles of the Waitrose Way. We’re so pleased that the work we’ve done to make more efficient use of shelf space at Waitrose and reduce waste by redesigning our packaging has been recognised.
"Fish and seafood are excellent sources of protein – health guidelines state that people should eat them at least twice a week. We also know that consumers should look to lessen the amount of salt in their diet. At Macrae Edinburgh we want to make our products as healthy as possible for Waitrose consumers and inspire them to eat more seafood.”
Quentin Clark, Head of Sustainability and Ethical Sourcing at Waitrose said: “These awards are a fantastic way of celebrating the hard work that our suppliers have been doing to improve the sustainability of their businesses and ultimately the Waitrose business as a whole. It was hard to pick the winners and those to highly commend from such a high standard of applicants and we are delighted that so many suppliers share the same goals that we do.”
Macrae Edinburgh is part of the Young's Seafood Group.
