Humber Seafood Summit Record Breaking Success

UK - With a record number of delegates attending this years Humber Seafood Summit, organisers Seafish has confirmed the event will take place again in Grimsby in 2014.

The two day event, which was sponsored by organisations from across the UK, took place on the 18 and 19 September at the Humber Royal Hotel, Grimsby.

Over 160 delegates attended from around the UK, Iceland, Norway and Sweden resulting in a 50 per cent increase in attendance compared with 2012.

This year’s event was also filmed live for the first time and a highlights package capturing key moments of debate from is available to view online. The success of this year’s event will not only see the summit return to Grimsby in 2014 but the town has also been selected to host the World Seafood Congress in 2015.

Dr Paul Williams, Chief Executive of Seafish said: “This year’s Humber Seafood Summit was the most successful to date, breaking last year’s incredible record. The event provides industry with a major networking opportunity in the Humber area. This year’s theme of Reputation and Integrity was a key issue for industry and the lively debates and presentations resonated well with attendees. We hope to build on the success of this year’s event as we look to the 2014 Summit.”

The two day summit, launched with a series of project presentations followed by a screening of Seafish’s film, ‘The Business of Fishing’. The event also included sessions from a variety of influential speakers on a range of subjects including seafood sustainability in a global context, industry integrity, reputation, genetic identification, labelling accuracy, transparency and implications for seafood, future opportunities and challenges.
