Philippines Remains World's Fourth Biggest Tilapia Producer

PHILIPPINES - Central Luzon's production of 44.94 per cent of the 260,935 tons of tilapia produced in the Philippines is helping the country maintain its position as the fourth tilapia producing country in the world.

The Philippines has maintained its position among the top tilapia producing countries, cornering eight per cent of the total world production, reports SunStar.

With this, stakeholders and major players in the tilapia industry have called for more production of the world-known commodity, to meet the growing demand globally.

BFAR National Director Atty. Asis Perez said tilapia is fast-becoming a bumper commodity. In fact it is one among seven commodities in which prices are being monitored in the markets.

“From local consumption, it is fast-becoming a global commodity,” said Mr Perez.
