Paraguay to Promote Aquaculture for Poverty Alleviation

PARAGUAY - The Ministry of Agriculture and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Paraguay are combining efforts to promote sustainable aquaculture production to ensure food security and reduce national poverty.

The promotion is part of the project "Implementation of the National Sustainable Aquaculture Development in Paraguay".

The National Aquaculture Development plan reflects the government's interest in promoting the development, diversification, competitiveness of family farms and the fight against poverty.

In this framework, the National Plan focuses on productive and economic improvement, increased productivity, increased consumption of farmed fish and technical capacity building.

Against this background, the government is working to strengthen the domestic market and export market expansion for aquaculture products.
