Manager Zakaria Harun told Bernama.com the factory, which has been long postponed due to lack of capital, will have a daily production capacity of two metric tonnes or 100 sacks of pellets.
The former oil company employee said he formed PY Maju with a capital of nearly RM1 million from savings and bank loans, and began producing 'keli' (catfish) in Kampung Kubang Puyu here five years ago.
The 100 ponds cover 30 acres (12 ha.), and can now produce seven metric tonnes of catfish a month for markets inside and outside the state.
Trees of cempedak (Artocarpus champeden, a smaller cousin of the jackfruit) shade the ponds and provide a constant supply of fruits to the fish, which need good feeding practices for optimum performance, he said, adding PY Maju also produces frozen and dried catfish.
