First Aid Packages Issued to Fishermen Operating in Rock of Gibraltar Waters

29 November 2013

SPAIN - The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Environment has begun to process payments of compensatory aid to vessels fishing in waters near the Rock of Gibraltar that have been affected by the restrictions on access to their traditional fishing grounds.

These first aid payments, corresponding to August, September and October, will be paid during the first days of December, and will benefit 23 owners and 81 crew.

Specifically, these 23 vessels belong to the Fishermen of Algeciras and the Linea de la Concepcion, and the Shipowners Association of Manufacturers Algeciras, fishing with purse seine fishing methods and minor arts.

According to the Ministerial Order, the amount to be received by each vessel varies between 2,623 and 7,117 euros, depending on the number of crew.
