China's Aquatic Produce Prices Rise Slightly

CHINA - Farm produce prices in 36 major Chinese cities rose slightly in the week ending 1 December compared with the previous week, according to a Ministry of Commerce statement.

The wholesale price of pork went up 0.5 per cent, while those of beef and mutton rose 0.2 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively.

The average wholesale price of aquatic products rose 0.2 per cent and the cost of peanut oil went up 0.1 per cent.

The average wholesale prices of 18 kinds of vegetables shed 0.5 per cent from a week earlier and the price of eggs went down 0.3 per cent.

Food accounts for about one third of China's consumer price index, a main gauge of inflation.

The CPI grew 3.2 per cent year on year in October, up from 3.1 per cent in September, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.
