Commercial Harvest of Groupers Closes on 20 December

11 December 2013

US - NOAA Fisheries reminds fishers that the commercial and recreational harvest of federally managed groupers closes in St. Thomas/St. John, United States Virgin Islands (USVI) federal waters at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on December 20, 2013.

The fishing season will reopen at 12:01 a.m. (local time) on January 1, 2014. During the closure, no fishers may fish for or keep federally managed groupers in or from St. Thomas/St. John federal waters.

US Caribbean federal waters around the USVI consist of those waters extending from the three nautical mile seaward boundary of the territory of the USVI out to 200 nautical miles offshore.

This action complies with regulations implemented under the Magnuson-Stevens Fishery Conservation and Management Act, and is necessary to protect these resources.
