Mainstream Reports Successful Trials of Copper Salmon Nets12 December 2013
CANADA - Aquaculture company Mainstream is currently trialing copper alloy nets at its Clayoquot Sound salmon farm.
So far the mesh nets have proven to stay clean, even after 10 months, resisting biofouling. They are also far stronger than conventional soft mesh, making them almost impenetrable to predators.
Water tests have also shown that they do not increase the amount of copper in the surrounding ocean.
Mainstream stated that it is the first company in Canada to try out this technology, and so far it is working well.
