Price of Chinese Agricultural Products Shows Slight Increase

CHINA - The market price for agricultural food products in China rose slightly over the week of 16-22 December according to a survey carried out by the Ministry of Commerce in 36 large and medium sized cities.

Compared to the previous week, the average wholesale price of 18 kinds of vegetables increased by 2.3 per cent in the last week, with the price of melon and fruit vegetables such as bitter gourd, green bean and green pepper increased the most, up by 9.6 per cent, 7.1 per cent and 5.3 per cent respectively.

Because the market supply of aquatic product reduced in winter, its average wholesale price increased by 0.2 per cent compared to the week before.

This included the price of marine products such as regalecus glesne, eupleurogrammus muticus and small yellow croaker which increased the most, up by 1.1 per cent, 0.8 per cent and 0.6 per cent respectively.

The wholesale price of meat increased slightly, with the price of pork, beef and lamb rising by 0.1 per cent, 0.4 per cent and 0.5 per cent respectively compared to the week before.

The retail price of grain and oil fluctuated slightly, and compared to the week before.

The price of rice in small packages, flour in small packages and soybean oil increased by 0.2 per cent, 0.2 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively, and the price of colleseed oil and peanut oil fell by 0.3 per cent and 0.1 per cent respectively.

The retail price of poultry and eggs fluctuated slightly, and compared to the week before, the price of whole chicken increased by 0.1 per cent and egg price declined by 0.1 per cent.
