Government Sets Six-month Lobster Fishing Ban

16 January 2014

ECUADOR - The Vice Ministry of Aquaculture and Fisheries MAGAP has closed lobster fishing from 16 January to 16 June 2014.

Guillermo Moran, vice minister of Aquaculture and Fisheries, said the closure period is set for six months to maintain the sustainability of the resource.

The ban prohibits the extraction, processing, transportation and marketing of the resource.

After the ban, lobsters may be captured, transported, processed and marketed, as long as their size is equal to or greater than 26 cm in length.
