Catalina Sea Ranch is developing the first open ocean shellfish ranch in United States federal waters' inline with the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) new aquaculture policy.

The new ranch will cultivate Mediterranean mussels and Pacific oysters and will help reduce the nation's $10 billion seafood deficit through the creation of new jobs.

The venture supports the goals of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Shellfish Initiative, which are to increase commercial shellfish aquaculture while improving ecosystem health.
