MEXICO - The Agrifood and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP) is in the first stage of drafting fisheries information that aims to integrate and validate statistics for the fisheries and aquaculture sectors.
This will, for the first time, produce precise statistics of fish production in the country, which can be used to strengthen public policies, productivity and to promote fishing in coastal and inland waters.
The body of the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food (SAGARPA) explained that the project aims to standardise operations of the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, with cutting edge software tools to process, analyze and validate automated data from the industry while integrating them into a reliable and secure base.
With the launch of this project, the SIAP will follow the fishing statistics and submit monthly and annual reports of 26 species of marine fish and two species of aquaculture, which together provide 80 per cent of the total value of domestic production .
