The Fukushima Prefectural Federation of Fisheries Co-operative Associations is trying to refute harmful rumors about their fish following the outbreak of the crisis at Tokyo Electric Power Co.’s Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.

According to the website, the federation carries out radiation checks in advance to determine the safety of fishing grounds, and of varieties of fish and shellfish before conducting test fishing.

The federation’s website carries information not only on radiation test results, but also on catches and sales reports.

The site also explains the process of test fishing, including how grounds are chosen, what kinds of fish and shellfish are caught and what kinds of inspection measures are performed at each fishery co-operative in the prefecture.
