Bob Trumble, assessor for the Marine Stewardship Council MSC, Ecuador congratulated for the work that has been done in this fishery and highlighted the processes of handling, storage and collection of information on this resource.

"We've seen improvement in law enforcement and the continued advance in the conservation of several species such as sea turtles," he said.

In his welcome address, Undersecretary of Fisheries Resources (SRP), Ramon Montano, thanked the collaboration of WWF-Ecuador in organising the workshop. He explained the progress in the management of this species.

Ecuador has set great challenges, many of which have been overcome, all in the quest to develop a strategic management that facilitates the development and implementation of policies, plans and programmes for the regulation and sustainable development of fisheries throughout the national territory.

Mr Montaño said the time is right to require eco-certification.
