El Nino Expected to Halve Peru's Fisheries

PERU - Fisheries in Peru are expected to fall by 50 per cent due to the effects of the El Nino phenomenon which is expected to reach the coast of Peru in the coming weeks.

Production Minister, Piero Ghezzi, said that there will be a moderate phenomenon and sea temperatures could rise by 0.5 degrees, a scenario that would lead to marine species migrating further south, but within the Peruvian jurisdiction, reports Andina.

In this context, he said that the national fishing fleet could face complications.

He also stated that there will be no decline in the rate of fishing.
