The Minister of Fisheries says measures will be taken to double the fisher exports by the year 2016.

Sri Lanka's fish production had exceeded 46,000 metric tons in 2009. The output was closer to 70,000 metric tons by the end of last year, reports SLBC.

Sri Lanka is now in the third place in exporting ornamental fishes. The country has earned an income of 750 million rupees through export of exquisite fishes in 2005. This revenue has now increased to 1,212 million rupees.

A 2000 million rupees revenue is anticipated through this industry in the next two years.
