Linfa Aquino, provincial fishery officer, said her office is coordinating closely with the local government units and monitors the incidence of fish kill but, as of the present time, there have been no registered fish kill in any part of Isabela.
Aquino said that fish kill usually occurs when there is rise in water temperature in fish pens and fish ponds or there are already low levels of water in fish ponds.
She said there are at least 1,100 hectares of fish ponds in Isabela which are being monitored by the fishery office. At least 50 hectares of this, Aquino added were vulnerable to fish kill.
“We hope that there will be no cases of fish kill in the province until the end of summer despite the hot weather," Aquino said.
Meanwhile, the provincial fishery office continuously conduct fingerling dispersal to fish farmers who are engaged in fish farming. Aquino advised fish farmers not to overfeed and to avoid overstocking of fingerlings in fish pens to avoid fish kill.
