Respected Climate Strategist to Present AquaVision 2014

08 May 2014

NORWAY - Professor Jorgen Randers has been confirmed as one of the keynote speakers at the AquaVision 2014 conference on 16-18 June 2014 in Stavanger, Norway. Professor Randers is one of the world’s most respected authorities on climate strategy.

He believes there is arguably no subject as topical as climate change and our future development. As such, we must all take responsibility and be aware of our behaviours and the potential impact they have on our planet.

Professor Randers works on climate and energy issues, scenario analysis and system dynamics at the BI Norwegian Business School. He is also a non-executive member of several corporate boards.

In 2012, he published the book ‘2052-A global forecast for the next forty years’ where he draws on his own experience in the sustainability area, and also uses global forecasting tools and the predictions of more than 30 leading scientists, economists, futurists and other thinkers to arrive at the future he feels is most likely to emerge.

In an eye-opening address, Professor Randers will present his forecast and highlight the consequences for the global food industry – both agro and aqua. The surprising result is that although the need for more food will remain very high towards 2050, the demand (backed by money) will grow much less. But the demand for protein, including fish, will explode and create a double challenge for global aquaculture: bigger volumes and lower ecological footprint.

AquaVision is a world-class aquaculture conference that attracts a diverse range of stakeholders to Stavanger every two years and will do so again 16-18 June 2014. The conference, organised by Skretting and its parent company Nutreco since 1996, has established itself as an important meeting place for some 450 participants from around 35 countries.
