VIET NAM - From January to May 2014, superficies for pangasius farming in the Mekong Delta estimated to hit 5,500 hectares with the output of 335 thousand MT.

Pangasius production in the period in some regional provinces reported year-on-year reduction. However, pangasius output and superficies for fish production in two provinces of Tien Giang and Ben Tre saw an increase, reports Vasep.

In May 2014, black tiger shrimp production in almost all provinces in the Mekong Delta reported year-on-year growth despite a decline in some main farming areas.

In the first five months of 2014, Viet Nam’s aquaculture production was estimated to reach 310 thousand MT, up 4.3 per cent year on year, driving the cumulative aquaculture production in the first five months of the year up to 999 thousand MT, up 1.5 per cent year on year.
