MEXICO - In support of shrimp aquaculture producers and in order to maintain the sustainable production of shrimp and ensure the supply of shellfish in 2014, the Government has channeled more than 600 million pesos into the productive sector of the country, announced the Secretary of Agriculture, Livestock, Rural Development, Fisheries and Food, Enrique Martinez y Martinez
SAGARPA reported that 283.5 million pesos are for direct support to shrimp farmers and an insurance fund of up to 317.5 million pesos is available.
A fund of 143.5 million pesos was created to support farmers affected by diseases that reduce the production. This was distributed as follows: 90 MDP to Sinaloa, 45.3 to Sonora and 8.2 to Nayarit.
A further 140 million was given in support of the acquisition of larvae for planting in the three states, as part of measures to boost the productive sector.
