Indonesia extend cooperation on fishing development

PHILIPPINES - The Philippines and Indonesia had extended their cooperation on the development of aquaculture, marine capture fisheries, post-harvest, fish processing development, marine fisheries conservation, anti-illegal fishing practices, research activities, education, training and environment protection, reports the Philippine Information Agency.

The fisheries cooperation of the Philippines with Indonesia has been extended until 2010 after both parties signed a memorandum of agreement.

President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo strongly support the efforts of the said cooperation with the help of the Department of Agriculture-Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (DA-BFAR), Department of Foreign Affairs and the private sector.

The said extension of the cooperation of Philippines and Indonesia brought immediate relief to the local tuna industry.

The new agreement requires a joint committee composed of senior officials from both countries that will determine in detail the cooperation schemes and effective implementation of several other fishery tie-ups.
