FAO to Help Mexico Strengthen Shrimp Farming Sector

MEXICO - The director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Jos Graziano da Silva, has expressed support for the actions being made to strengthen the growth and development of shrimp farming in Mexico.

In a meeting with the National Commissioner of Aquaculture and Fisheries, Mario Aguilar Sanchez and Mexico's ambassador to Italy, Miguel Ruiz-Shack Izquierdo, José Graziano da Silva expressed his unconditional support to assist Mexico with the sustainable production of shrimp.

This meeting took place at the headquarters of the international organization in Rome, Italy,to discuss Early Mortality Syndrome which is affecting farmed shrimp producers in China, Vietnam, Malaysia and Thailand and Mexico.

The head of the FAO reported that in September this year a regional workshop will be held to analyze the situation of the shrimp farming sector.
