Pakistan currently has an underdeveloped aquaculture and fish processing sector and mainly consumes and exports wild-caught fish, reports VASEP.
With dwindling fish resources, Pakistan depends mostly on imported fish to meet its local demand.
Through April 2014, Viet Nam seafood exports to Pakistan reached more than $5 million, up 17 per cent year on year.
It is expected that Pakistan will purchase more seafood from Viet Nam in coming time to satisfy its seasonally high demand for seafood in the winter (from September to January).
Viet Nam pangasius exporters to Pakistan also enjoy many advantages, such as, they only need health certificates to sell their fish products to the market without subjecting to any technical barriers such as antidumping duty.
