The conference also attended by the Governor of Valparaiso, Omar Jara, Seremi Health, Graciela Maria Astudillo and representatives of the Health Authority and the Maritime Authority.
The agency will continue working with fishermen in the coming weeks, in order to draw more specific actions and disseminate risk sanctions for failure to comply with the prohibition period to extract and market the product.
Mr Bravo said that from today, the government intensify its controls to combat the illegal marketing of hake, expressing a commitment to protect this species during the breeding season, as the species has decreased by 30 per cent in recent years.
"Compared to last year, the quota for the extraction of hake has dropped from 40,000 to 19,000 tons," the authority said, warning that further overexploitation of hake could mean the disappearance of this species on our shores.
Eduardo Quiroz, head of Caleta Portales, reiterated the call to retailers, restaurants and consumers in general to respect this measure of authority.
