Sustainability Processing +3 more

ICELAND - Icelandic research group Mats, together with the ministry of Industries and Innovation, University of Iceland and Mercator Media, is organising a very interesting conference, which takes place on the first day of the Icelandic Fisheries Exhibition & Awards 2014 (IceFish) in Kpavogur.

The conference that Matís has helped to plan, titled “Fish Waste for Profit - Maximising Return: Utilising the Entire Fish”, will examine how we can improve the full utilisation of seafood.

Icelanders are among the best in full utilisation of fish catch and, therefore, many look to Iceland in hope of learning the right techniques.

When speaking of cod and full utilisation of the raw material, few are as well educated and experienced as Sigurjón Arason, chief engineer at Matís. He has over 30 years of working experience within the Icelandic fishing industry studying the full utilisation of cod and other species.

Sigurjón Arason will give a lecture at the conference as well as Dr Sigrún Mjöll Halldórsdóttir, project manager at Matís.

Other interesting lecturers will speak at the conference, including Friðrik Sigurðsson - a consultant who has worked in the Norwegian fishing industry for a long time, Hólmfríður Sveinsdóttur - CEO at Iceprotein and former employee at Matís, as well as Ingólfur Arnarsson - CEO at Skaginn.

Matís has been involved in all IceFish exhibitions since 2007 when Matís was established. IceFish is the largest exhibition in this category in Iceland and brings together all the major stakeholders in the fisheries sector both from Iceland as well as from other countries.

The exhibition has grown steadily since its beginning in 1984, and it is notable that participants and visitors increased significantly in 2008 and 2011 despite various financial difficulties here in Iceland.

The exhibition will take place from the 25 to 27 of September.
