Norway Experiences Seafood Growth After Third Quarter

NORWAY - Norway exported seafood worth 6 billion in September. There is an increase of NOK 792 million, or 15 per cent, compared to September last year. So far this year, seafood exports NOK 48.5 billion, an increase of 6.7 billion, or 16 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

"Norwegian seafood exports continue to grow as we pass the first three quarters. Growth continues in spite of import top to Russia, but it is still early to conclude on the effect of our largest market has lapsed," said Christian Chramer, communications director of the Norwegian Seafood Council.

"Still, the growth in global demand and Norwegian companies and their customers' adaptability helps to mitigate challenges," said Mr Chramer.

Growth of salmon

Norway exported salmon for 3.5 billion in September. There is an increase of NOK 232 million, or seven per cent, compared to September last year. This year's salmon exports 31.9 billion, an increase of 4.7 billion, or 17 per cent, compared with the same period last year.

The average price for whole fresh Norwegian salmon in the month of September 34.85 million to 33.48 million in September last year.

Down herring, mackerel up

Herring exports fell by 33 million, or 17 per cent to a total value of 161 million. So far this year, exports of herring for 1.8 billion. There is a decrease of 139 million, compared with the same period last year.

Mackerel exports increased in September by 393 million to a total of 730 million. There is an increase of 117 per cent compared to September last year. So far this year, exports of mackerel increased by 651 million, to a total of 1.7 billion, compared with the same period last year.

Growth in cod, salted down

Dried cod exports increased by 49 million in September, for a total value of 455 million. Exports divided by 251 million on cod, saithe 154 million, while remaining distributed among ling, tusk and other groundfish.

Exports of salted fish, including fillets, fell by nine million in September to a total of 31 million. 28 million of these are cod.

Exports of fresh cod from fishing, including fillets, increased by two million in September to a total export value of NOK 44 million. In September, exports of frozen cod, including the fillet, with 78 million to a total of 187 million.

Growth of trout

Exports of trout in September for 207 million. There is an increase of eight million, or four per cent from last September. So far this year, exports of trout for 1.8 billion. There is an increase of NOK 139 million, or eight per cent, compared with the same period last year.
