The hospital is expected to be built in Kolkata by mid-2015 and senior scientist TJ Abraham, who is spearheading the project, said that work has already started.

The scientist explained that around 60-65 kinds of disease and abnormality are found in fish in India and that diseases can severely affect production numbers if not treated properly.

The new hospital will therefore help fish farmers increase their yields by reducing the number of fish deaths.

The hospital is to be equipped with 50 glass aquariums and 25 circular water tanks, each with a capacity of 500 litres.

The hospital will also have a separate well-equipped pathological lab to diagnose various fish diseases.

The fish hospital, which is funded by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, under the Union Ministry of Agriculture, has a budget of Rs five crore, reports TheEconomicTimes.
