Sustainability Politics

GLOBAL - The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) has updated its Benchmarking and Tracking tool (BMT) which was first launched in February 2014.

The tool was designed to provide a consistent method of benchmarking Fishery Improvement Projects (FIPs) against the MSC Fisheries Standard, while also tracking progress as fisheries move towards sustainability.

Revised tool to track progress

The BMT has now been updated in accordance with the changes to the MSC fisheries certification requirements. As well as this, a BMT for salmon fisheries has been developed to reflect the different indicators against which these fisheries are assessed.

This tool is one part of the work MSC undertakes to support fisheries that want to eventually become certified.

The MSC also undertakes regular training and development of other tools to ensure fisheries can successfully improve towards sustainability and achieve MSC certification.
