Viet Nam Commits to Reduced Shrimp Disease, Improved Safety in 2015

VIET NAM - The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (MARD) says it aims to reduce disease affected shrimp areas by 50 per cent in 2015.

The ministry also said it also aims in 2015 to supply products that are disease-free and safe with no antibiotic residues.

The year 2014 witnessed a boom in shrimp industry. Brackish water shrimp farming area reached 685,000 hectares, up 4.4 per cent from 2013, reports VASEP.

Output was estimated at 660,000 MT, up 20 per cent from 2013. The increase mainly caused by a rise in whiteleg shrimp rearing. Harvest of this species climbed by over 100,000 MT, equivalent to a 42.9 per cent growth from 2013.
